Hi Ron,

A friend and I floated a Montana river in a canoe, a new watercraft for me. The North Fork of the Flathead river defines the western boundary of Glacier National Park. Grizzly bears are an issue in Glacier and we armed ourselves with information and pepper spray, the two recommended actions. We never saw any bears so we used the pepper spray in our bean soup the last night (just kidding).

We put in at the Canadian border and the place was crawling with Border Patrol personnel. They were practicing river surveillance, training horses for backcountry travel and just checking out the road. Apparently, if you work in Tijuana long enough, they transfer you to Montana as a reward. These guys were happy.

No bears but we did see bald eagles. Here is one with an expansive view.

I had a pretty good view in the bow of the canoe. This is fairly typical. Easy, beautiful.

We scouted the few rapids marked on the map. It was nice to pull the boat over and walk.

Now the artsy stuff. Everything is in motion in this photo. I don't remember falling out of the boat though.

Low angle light make almost everything photograph able.

Cast and crew: Dan Baker was/is the brains behind most of these trips I go on. If it weren't for his imagination, initiative, and planning skills, I'd probably still be photographing the ceiling.

Here I am, demonstrating the complexities of the cross bow draw. Its ironic that I wear dress shirts only when I do outdoor trips.

So long for now. Don't forget to check out the archive feature to look at earlier photos.
